Start at Wilhelmsburger Inselpark
A sustainable day in Wilhelmsburg combines nature and urban culture. Start at Wilhelmsburg Inselpark, easily accessible by S-Bahn. The Inselpark emerged from the 2013 International Garden Show and is still a green oasis with great playgrounds and plenty of space for walking.
Located directly at the park, you can learn about "forest and wood" at 80 exciting stations in the Forest Science Centre at the Raphael Hotel Wälderhaus. There you will also get your culinary money's worth: the Wilhelms Restaurant serves regional and seasonal dishes.
Relaxed shopping on the Vering Canal
The secluded Veringkanal is only a few minutes away by bike. This little-known spot in the countryside makes you want to take a little time out by the lazily flowing water. Behind the riverside paths, Veringhof and Veringstraße invite you to do some conscious shopping: At Bridge & Tunnel you will find individual products made from old textiles and material surpluses, manufactured by a multinational team. A little further on, at Quiddje, you will discover handmade products from the Hanseatic city - from postcards to jewellery and fashion. The Unpacked Island offers a wide selection of plastic-free goods and delicious organic snacks for on the go.
Time out in the countryside & a relaxing end to the day
Beautiful destinations for walking and cycling can be found in the east of the island: the species-rich nature reserve Heuckenlock harbours one of the last tidal floodplain forests in Europe. In the far south, the Bunthäuser Spitze divides the Elbe into north and south arms. A lighthouse towers picturesquely in front of it. But the best view of the undiscovered district is from the terrace of the Energiebunker, a thermal power station with Café Vju. A relaxed end to a perfect day in Wilhelmsburg is a cool blonde of a special kind: an unconventional beer in organic quality awaits you at the Wildwuchs Brauwerk.
