It doesn't look like nightlife here: Most people who walk along Amandastraße not far from the hill after dark are on their way to their home. Although they are only a stone's throw away, the Amanda 66, one of the most pleasant bars in town, is completely away from the hustle and bustle of the Schanzenviertel.

This is how you want the bar next door: to come in, to sit on the bar stool, to admire the spirits collection behind the counter. A Whiskey Sour perhaps? But would you prefer a White Russian? Perhaps the expert discussion with the bartender about gins and current trends in tonic water will bring clarity ...

He used to stand on the steam engine tender and shovel coal into the burner - the stoker, called "Boilerman" in the Anglo-Saxon language area. The bar of the same name in Eppendorf, however, is anything but hot - on the contrary: here a Japanese luxury ice cream machine is used to produce oversized, round ice cubes.

"Welcome to The Chug Club! Here we have dedicated ourselves to Tequila. If you like, I'll be happy to explain the map". With such a cordial and personal greeting by the bartender, you will feel well cared for right away - and will also be very happy to explain the extraordinarily beautifully designed menu. Of course, at The Chug Club you can get every drink you know. But if you are already there, you should definitely get involved in the Tequila experiment.

Started 2007 in Winterhude, the party should never end in Freundlich+Kompetent - unfortunately the landlord saw it differently, so that Julius Horn and Julian Jasper-Koch had to look for new premises at the end of 2014. The two bar operators found what they were looking for in Hamburger Straße in Barmbek-Süd: at the beginning of 2015 they celebrated a loud comeback, which attracted regular guests and new customers in droves to the brick-decorated location. 

There are so many bad bars in Hamburg that you often get the thought: "THAT I could do too!" when you go on a ramble through the popular scene quarters. But is that also enough to open your own bar? Or shouldn't the claim be: "I could do better than that"? But what do you actually need to gain a foothold as a gastronomer in a city like Hamburg? The answer is simple: heart, experience and intellect. 

"One's left"! The most unusual thing about this locality is the opening hours, because some nights guests are admitted until four o'clock, some even until six o'clock in the morning. In the Klimperkiste not only beer, spirits or cocktails are served, also the menu is worth a look with more than 60 different dishes. For a quick drink, there is a small, cosy counter with a view of the open kitchen. Those who want to stay longer can sit down in the back of the restaurant. 

Heavy, sound-absorbing carpet, dim, indirect light, bizarrely patterned wallpaper - and as a vanishing point for the eye a metal lion of considerable dimensions, which is set into the back wall and watches over the people sitting at the counter with a stern gaze. Welcome to the realm of the Lion! Here you will find first and foremost cocktails of excellent quality. And when we talk about cocktails, we are not talking about fruit, sprit and cream cold dishes with fruit and umbrellas, but about exquisite classics and our own creations.

We're not in Seattle here, Dirk. There are things you always have to be able to rely on. The mother is certainly one of them. Nobody knows exactly how old she is - and asking would be rude. But one thing is clear: they all drank here: the indies from the Hamburg school, the neo-existentialists from Berlin, who came here for a night, the music industry folk or the pub staffs of other shops, when they finally got off work after a long night.
 

Founded by a student initiative, the Pony Bar is more than just a place of gastronomy. In the evening, the café turns into a pub, where not only beer, wine and Cuba Libre are served, but also a rich cultural program is offered. The university custom of starting courses too late has a natural explanation: before the lecture halls fill up, students and teachers have to have a cup of coffee and a French roll. Where better to do this than in the nearby Pony Bar?

The nice thing about the Rehbar is that you don't have to be a night owl to spend a good time there - because you can already do that during the day from 10 am. The location in the middle of the beautiful district Ottensen with all its small boutiques and shops (and if you like, the big Mercado shopping centre around the corner) makes the café-bar the perfect place for a little shopping break with a latte and a piece of cheesecake.
