Two years of “writing and printing world” in Soltau

The era of the old printing craft is far from over in Soltau. It has been alive as an intangible cultural heritage at Kirchstrasse 2 since May 2022. As a cute mascot, Bleilaus Guddi Gutenberg welcomes everyone who is interested right above the entrance. “It arouses curiosity day and night about the Soltau world of black art with millions of letters,” jokes Reinhard Riedel, first chairman of the non-profit sponsoring association. There are not only guided tours, but also practice in typesetting and printing. Johannes Gutenberg's almost extinct technique is successfully passed on in the aesthetically designed museum by dedicated volunteers. Numerous lead and wooden fonts as well as old, fully functional machines from the former Soltau book printing companies Herzberg and Mundschenk show the once revolutionary way of reproducing texts.

The association will celebrate the two-year anniversary of the “Writing and Printing World” right in the center of Soltau’s city center on Röders Hof next to the felto-Filzwelt on Saturday, May 11, 2024. The festival will be ceremoniously opened at 3 p.m. The brass group “Happy Brass” livens up the afternoon. Active club members come dressed like they did in Gutenberg's time and let visitors from near and far print their own prints. The cartoonist Tetsche, who was born in Soltau, is a prominent guest as the creator of Bleilaus. In addition, members of the Soltau photo club “Pixelwerkstatt” auction off beautiful photo canvases for a good cause. From 6 p.m. the band “Heavy Silence” will provide the atmosphere. They celebrate the anthems of the last decades with 100% fun and a lot of passion. Classics and modern songs from pop to rock get their own heavy silence spice mix with acoustic guitars and invite you to dance.

The Soltau Country Women provide culinary delights with delicious cakes. Later, the food truck of the DRK district association Fallingbostel offers a variety of dishes. Drinks are also provided.
