»diasporAsa« – the name of this concert format evokes the existence of religious, cultural and ethnic communities in a »foreign land«, where people leave their traditional homeland and become dispersed across large parts of the world. The concept of diaspora is inextricably linked to Jewish history in particular. This musical cycle explores the search for resonance and the ongoing struggle to define »one’s own« cultural identity – driven by the desire to listen to one another and to discover in this an opportunity for peaceful cultural and religious coexistence that connects people of different religions, cultures and generations, despite their differences, rather than separating them.
The performance of »diasporAsa« is preceded on 23 October by a workshop at the Hamburg University of Music and Drama, where participants can work artistically with the asambura ensemble on the questions at the heart of the project.
