With »ÜberBach II«, pianist Sebastian Knauer continues the international success of his ECHO Klassik award-winning project »ÜberBach« in a fascinating new version. He has commissioned Arash Safaian to compose an entirely new concerto for the cycle while thoroughly revising the existing works. The new pieces receive their world premieres in this concert at the Elbphilharmonie.
Joining Sebastian Knauer are the internationally renowned Vienna Chamber Orchestra and vibraphone and percussion star Morten Friis, founder of the Safri Duo.
The programme also features works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Edvard Grieg, Antonín Dvořák and Dmitri Shostakovich. Another highlight is music by the American composer and pioneer of minimal music Philip Glass. To mark his 90th birthday, his works can be heard in a previously unheard arrangement for piano, vibraphone, percussion and string orchestra. An evening that brings Bach’s musical legacy compellingly into the present while opening up new perspectives.
