QueerHistoryMonth | Queeres Leben und Sterben – Vielfalt und Vorsorge

Yes, we all know that we die and it is an uncomfortable subject. For queer people in particular, life has always been fraught with small or even insurmountable hurdles. Unfortunately, this almost always continues even after death, because a eulogy in gender-sensitive language and a funeral and farewell ceremony in which our diversity is not emphasized in some way without being asked are unfortunately still a rarity. It can simply make grief even harder if we still have to explain to ourselves during this phase why our loved one lived exactly as he or she did.

Together we go into Hamburg's queer past: MEMENTO. eV tells you how and why the association was founded during the AIDS pandemic and explains its thematic development, which to this day also includes the large communal grave for our community and allies in the beautiful Ohlsdorf Park Cemetery. Get in touch!

Present: Redenausdemleben, Annette Nordhoff (freelance funeral speaker in the Hamburg queer community) and Seren Gören, the funeral director and founder of the funeral home Das Himmelsprojekt, will discuss with you the possibilities of a gender-sensitive, individual and contemporary funeral and farewell ceremony.

Future: Here we'll be very practical and it's up to you! Together we'll address the often unpleasant topic of making provisions. Who should be responsible for my farewell? From a purely legal perspective, your biological family of origin is responsible for this. If they refuse, the social welfare office is. How can I legally avoid this situation and appoint the person of my heart? Together we'll look at a funeral directive and if you like, you can fill it out directly and put everything in the bag on site.

We look forward to seeing you and our warm, open and diverse exchange on a topic that belongs to life.

During QueerHistoryMonth, various Hamburg LGBTIQ* projects and cultural institutions, museums, archives and individuals offer a wide range of events. The QHM is a collaborative project of Hamburg's queer community that aims to promote the discussion of historical and current queer topics.
