What is it that makes a single night sparkle so much more magically than a hundred happy days? Definitely songs and melodies brimming with Baroque joie de vivre. Undoubtedly the infectious joy of a choir that gets to embody heavenly lovers and other mythical creatures through song. And surely it all has something to do with a pinch of fairy dust. When the Franz Schubert Choir performs its version of Henry Purcell’s »The Fairy Queen«, arranged by Anthony Lewis, this beloved Baroque opera unfolds a magic all its own. Familiar arias sound surprisingly fresh in choral arrangements, an expressive interpretation underscores the music, and in the middle of November, a concert-style »A Midsummer Night’s Dream« comes to life on the stage of the Laeiszhalle.
