Johann Sebastian Bach’s First Cello Suite ranks among the most beloved works in the classical repertoire. In this recital, its famous Prelude and the dance movements that follow can be heard in a different timbre, performed on the viola. Swiss violist Sarah Strohm, who won First Prize at the Concours de Genève in her hometown in 2025, traces a musical arc from Bach’s Baroque language through Franz Schubert’s lyrical »Arpeggione« Sonata to the early 20th century and Paul Hindemith, who was himself a distinguished violist.
