Imagine Freedom

What does freedom mean? Is it possible to be free as an individual and live alongside others in peace at the same time? Young creative folk have been asking themselves these and similar questions – and are answering them as part of the Elbphilharmonie‘s community project through drama, dance and movement, singing and music. Mable Preach, who directs theatre productions at Kampnagel and other venues, oversaw the workshops.

The young people on stage are all united by an enjoyment of trying things out, a desire to develop music and choreographies together, and to think up stories. Inspired by group excursions, song lyrics, current political debates, music and more, the final performance is set to take shape in workshops from January 2024 onwards.

The project is accompanied by three creative minds and workshop leaders: Mable Opuku Preach is a director, choreographer and curator of the festival for urban BiPoc youth culture FORMATION**NOW, as well as director of the cultural and youth association LUKULULE. She is dedicated to taking a critical look at racism and (neo-)colonialism, and promoting empowerment. Rike Maerten is a dramaturge and has been working with Mable Preach for many years. Kian Jazdi is a musician with Iranian roots who is committed to bringing about greater diversity in the world of music. He is at home in both the classical and electronic genres.
