Having become known at the pro-European demonstrations on Maidan Square in Kyiv, the seven members of »Dakh Daughters« count today among Ukraine’s most famous voices. Their thrilling »freak cabaret« is an intelligent, loud protest against the war Russia has unleashed on their homeland.

Since forming in Kyiv’s independent theatre scene in 2012, the trademark of the »Dakh Daughters« has been their white faces, red lips, pigtails and tulle skirts – and huge boots to provide a contrast to the doll-like look. With punk, rap, pop, rock, classical and elements of Ukrainian folk, they are putting up a musical fight for their country from exile in France.

At the Hamburg International Music Festival, which in 2024 is all about the theme »War and Peace«, the seven-strong band is performing »Ukraine Fire« – an intensive total artwork with light effects and video projections. The artists are driven by a passionate hope for peace: in their music they speak of the fates of their compatriots as they defend against the Russian attack, and urge the world not to forget about this war.
