There’s a touch of nostalgia in Betti Kruse’s music. Not in the sense that everything used to be better. Rather, it’s about stripping things back to the essentials: the Hamburg singer-songwriter’s music exudes a certain serenity, drawing its energy from beats, warm arrangements – and the stories. »I want to share them in my songs,« says Kruse. »I’m a storyteller.« The result is new German beat music, with cool Motown sounds and trumpets, charming yet with a bite to its lyrics. At the Elbphilharmonie, she shares the stage with friends and musical companions, performing with an unusually large line-up.
