Once the second home of the butchers next door, Erika's Eck is now an unconventional meeting place for regulars, partyers, tourists, taxi drivers and everyone else with an appetite for three. For around 40 years, this German restaurant has been offering hearty home-style food at absolutely fair prices. It well may be that the sumptuous schnitzel is even bigger than the plate it's served on.

Middle-Eastern food to go: According to experienced night lovers, the Falafelstern is said to offer the best falafel in town: generously portioned, seasoned to taste with various sauces and relishes, and always aromatic and fresh.

The Fischereihafen is a safe bet in every respect - you can enjoy a romantic tête-à-tête here as well as take out your parents-in-law or a business partner. The restaurant focuses on fish dishes. Its cuisine is based on traditional, elegant dishes such as eel soup, labskaus, trout or lobster, but also on modern dishes such as sashimi or gambas with red-wine chili dip and glass noodle salad.

Really good - and unchanged for ages - is the menu. Plat du Jour serves French cuisine, mostly in rural style without any frills, but in very high quality. There are bistro classics such as snails with parsley and garlic sauce or a fish soup with rouille and garlic bread as a starter and main courses such as rabbit leg with Dijon mustard sauce or of course a classic steak frites - here as rump steak - with pepper sauce.

Anyone who dines in the Vegan Eagle will confirm it. This restaurant proves impressively that vegan food has nothing to do with renunciation, but can easily mean enjoyment and real culinary flights of fancy. The range of food and drinks on offer is also a wild ride through all cultures and nationalities. There are delicious oat-based burgers, Asian soups, Californian starter plates - as well as a remarkably tasty vegan interpretation of the popular sailor's dish Labskaus.

The two food trucks from Vincent Vegan change locations daily. They offer French fries, burgers and currywurst, the latter two, however, exclusively in a vegan version. The burgers are abundant and juicy, the fries crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The delicious snacks should be washed down with the good lemonades.
