Playground Coffee

At Playground Coffee in Hamburg you get naturally grown and prepared coffees from all over the world, which are processed in one of the best roasting plants in Europe.

With Playground Coffee, owner Veljko Tatalovic fulfilled a dream: here, naturally grown and prepared coffees from all over the world are processed in one of the best roasting plants in Europe.

Almost everyone drinks it every day to activate their tired cells, for many it is love for life. But what actually makes really good coffee and how do you find it in a city of millions?
Quite simply, you go where quality is written in capital letters and passion becomes a really great product: to the playground. For one and a half years now, the perfect black gold has been flowing into the cups at Playground Coffee in the university quarter at Grindel. The shop-in-shop system with the friends from Otto's Burger works perfectly because the core hours complement each other perfectly and the lovingly designed shop is always filled just right.
"I wanted to either roast coffee or brew beer".

But owner Veljko Tatalovic also rotates around the clock. At just over 30 years old, he is founder, buyer, roaster, barista, financial manager and caretaker all rolled into one. At some point, his passion for an extraordinary product led to a career change. "I wanted to either roast coffee or brew beer," says Veljko. With Playground Coffe, he was already able to fulfil both: Together with the friendly operator of the Buddelship brewery, he has produced a coffee beer limited to 700 bottles. Of course, the trained photographer now also gets support in his day-to-day business.

Handpicked, fairly traded and gently processed

In fact, a lot has come about through cooperation - for example, the chalk-painted bar and the individual designs of the coffee packages are the result of creative friends. The latter are so beautiful that Veljko even sells them as posters in the online shop. In addition to his actual product, of course. Seven types of coffee are available online and in the café, all with different flavours and playful names. But whether "King Kongo Filter Coffee" or "Skywalker Espresso" - they all have one thing in common: their beans come from small farms all over the world, are hand-picked, fairly traded and gently processed. Of course, they are roasted in their own roastery in the south of Hamburg, which, by the way, is officially one of the ten best in Europe.

And this is exactly Veljko's secret: "Coffee is totally interesting by nature and can have over 1000 flavours. But industrial roasting often destroys them, leaving only the typical bitter taste." At Playground Coffee, things are different. If you're in the mood for honest coffee without a lot of frills, but with natural berry, chocolate, caramel or citrus notes, you should come and try it. Veljko is sure to be there.
