The Cruise Center Steinwerder is the third terminal in Hamburg, following CC Altona and CC HafenCity.

The Cruise Center Steinwerder is the youngest and most modern handling terminal in Hamburg.  Since 2015, it has been possible to handle 8,000 passengers per approach in two separate terminal buildings. This is where cruise ships of the latest generation with a total length of over 330 m and a draught of up to 13 m can dock. Special for arrivals and departures: A water voyage before or after the actual cruise.

Around the terminal: staying overnight

There are no hostels in the container port (yet). We recommend two nearby hotels for those who like to see: The Empire Riverside rises out of the harbour like a black monolith, hardly any house offers a more spectacular view over the Elbe. The Hanse Clipper Haus, located in the middle of the Portuguese quarter, offers a maximum lateral view of the Elbe, large rooms, perfect for long weekends.

Experience

The Cruise Center Steinwerder is located in the middle of the container port - and awakens curiosity to explore this world of work. Countless individual facilities make up the harbour as a whole, a harbour tour to Kuhwerderhafen and the old lighthouse in Ellermoorhafen shows the change, but above all that it is still a place of work. The halls of BallinStadt show that a good 100 years ago the harbour was above all a place for refugees. They were once the accommodation for all those who wanted to leave Europe and Germany in order to have a better future in the USA. Between 1891 and 1914 almost two million people emigrated.

Enjoy

The air-raid shelter in Wilhelmsburg was once a place of fear until it was converted into an energy bunker for the building exhibition. From its roof terrace, the Café-Restaurant Vju at a height of 30 metres not only offers a great view over the city, but also very tasty food. There is a culinary travel guide on the subject: "The Fish Roll Report" claims to list the best of its kind in northern Germany. Bridge 10 occupies a special position - homemade ribs, homemade remoulade and so much filling that you can't open your mouth so wide. And that with this situation: on the landing bridges, the ships pass you within reach.

Typically Hamburg

"You don't learn the sailor's life by doing exercises in a puddle" is the beautiful motto on the website of the Hamburg Maritim Foundation. The foundation has its headquarters in shed 50 at Hansahafen - and is waiting for the arrival of the four-mast barque PEKING. The ship, whose elaborate restoration began in summer 2017, is to become the showpiece of the German Harbour Museum. You can already find out about it in the Schuppen 50.
