The fresh trio project of the Hamburg musicians Hans-Christoph Hartmann (saxophone), Joachim Kamps (piano) and Dirk Achim Dhonau (drums) doesn't want to fit into any category.
Conceptually well-thought-out themes stand alongside improvised outbursts that take full risk into account of the spontaneity of the moment. The physical joy of the groove is just as fundamental as the spiritually imbued aftertaste of a complex sound. If you don't need drawers, you can start a musical adventure here. A holistic musical experience - despite the diversity of its elements!
Hans-Christoph Hartmann, born in Lübbecke in 1968, studied music at the University of Bremen and has been working with various areas of improvised music since then. On behalf of the Mobile Cinema Lower Saxony, he created new music for various silent films and toured several times.
Hans-Christoph Hartmann has been working as a freelance musician in Hamburg since January 2006. In November 2006, theater music by Hans-Christoph Hartmann for the piece “World Slum Love” by actress Isabel Navarro was performed at Kampnagel/Hamburg. Further performances followed in November 2008 in the Bremen Schwankhalle and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg.
Dirk Achim Dhonau is the current winner of the Hamburg Jazz Prize 2023. He has been known in the Hamburg jazz scene for many years from bands such as the Capri di Rote Quintett, the Gabriel Coburger Quartet and Eisenrot. He has also been working with the actor Dominique Horwitz for many years and has already composed many theater scores.
Joachim Kamps, born in Berlin-Charlottenburg in 1958, lives as a pianist and music teacher in Hamburg. He studied at the Hamburg University of Music, including with Dieter Glawischnig, and gained extensive experience in the areas of classical music and jazz. In 1987 he lived and worked in New York for nine months.
Kamps is a pianist who has had experience with the fathers of modernism; echoes of Debussy and Webern are noticeable, as is his engagement with current trends. In search of his own expression, he leaves the beaten path and remains a crossover artist between new music and jazz.
