THIS IS WHERE WE BELONG! explores the themes of identity, belonging and cultural respect within global hip-hop culture. The performance examines power structures, community and how we deal with cultural appropriation – navigating the balance between exchange, consumption and appreciation. Over 100 children and young people from all levels of the Hip Hop Academy’s training programme bring the diversity of hip-hop culture to the stage: breaking, rap, singing, hip-hop dance and music production. Under the artistic direction of Franklyn (Slunch) Kakyire and tutors from the HipHop Academy, the result is an evening full of expression, attitude and collective energy.
