How do we connect with the world? Through encounters, through communication and through art. Music creates a space of special resonance: it brings people together, allows thoughts and emotions to interact, and gives voice to what moves us. With its concert programme »Connections«, the Felix Mendelssohn Youth Orchestra explores this question and presents two works at the Elbphilharmonie that speak of connection and musical collaboration in very different ways.
Under the baton of Clemens Malich, the orchestra will perform Johannes Brahms’ Fourth Symphony. With its blend of dramatic power, lyrical beauty and masterful form, it is regarded as the pinnacle of Brahms’ symphonic output and as one of the most significant works of the Romantic era. The second highlight of the programme is Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto, whose melancholic beauty and intense expressiveness make it an absolute classic.
With his ability to shape every musical phrase with intensity and naturalness, Valentino Worlitzsch ranks among the outstanding cellists of his generation. His playing is often described as immediate, compelling and free from superficial effects; it also thrives on musical dialogue and a direct connection with his fellow musicians. In this way, he embodies the concept of »Connections« in a special way.
