Experience the herd of Heidschnucks and sheep being brought into their stable directly on the Misselhorner Heide in the Südheide Nature Park near Hermannsburg.

The Misselhorner Heide is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful heath areas in the Südheide Nature Park. A herd of Heidschnucken and sheep works here and looks after the heath. In this way, our four-legged landscape managers contribute to the preservation of our unique cultural landscape. For visitors to the Lüneburg Heath, one of the highlights is meeting a herd in the vast heathland landscape. With a bit of luck, the herd can be observed on hikes and bike rides in the Misselhorner Heide.

Snail drive - the special experience in the Lüneburg Heath

A very special experience is driving the herds into their farms. The flock's sheepfold is only 250 meters from the Misselhorner Heide hiking car park; the path from the car park to the sheepfold is signposted. When driving in the snails, you can watch as the shepherdess drives the flock into their stable after hard work on the heath. There is a safe, dry and cozy sheepfold waiting for the Heidschnucken and sheep as well as delicious hay. Experience an unforgettable moment on your holiday in the beautiful Misselhorner Heide in the Südheide Nature Park.

The sheepfold is only a few meters away from the Heidschnuckenweg, so that Heidschnuckenweg hikers can easily integrate the drive into their hike. Simply follow the signs at the Misselhorner Heide car park.

When do the snails go into the stable?

• Dates: Mondays to Thursdays from April to mid-October
• Time: approx. 5:00 p.m
• Parking: Parking is only possible in the Misselhorner Heide hiking car park
• If you bring your dog, please keep him on a leash to avoid scaring the herd
• Watching the herd being brought in is free

Directions to the “Misselhorner Heide” car park:

You can reach the Misselhorner Heide car park via the K 17 Hermannsburg towards Unterlüß. After approx. 1.5 km after leaving Hermannsburg, the car park is on the right. The parking lot is signposted “Misselhorner Heide”.

Please note: The animals cannot read the time, so it can happen that the herd arrives at the stable before 5:00 p.m. We therefore recommend that you be near the sheepfold before 5 p.m.

When temperatures are high, the herd stays outside on the area in front of the stable. You can also watch them there.
