The Pouya Abdi Quartet, founded in 2021, blends influences from Brazil, Iran, Georgia, and
Sweden into a distinctive sound full of spontaneity and vibrant interplay. Björn Atle Anfinsen
(trumpet, flugelhorn), Giorgi Kiknadze (double bass), Rafa Müller (drums), and Pouya Abdi (guitar)
create music that feels raw, direct, and deeply rooted.
In Autumn 2026, the band will release its new live album on vinyl, recorded together with
renowned saxophonist and flutist Gabriel Coburger. The encounter with him shapes the character of
this production—a cross-generational dialogue that brings out the quartet’s versatility in a unique
way.
At the heart of the quartet’s music lies a balance between structure and openness. Their
compositions offer the musicians ample freedom for improvisation and deeply personal expression,
allowing each voice to unfold naturally within the collective sound. Lyrical melodies intertwine
with rich, guitar-driven harmonies, creating musical landscapes that can be tender and introspective
one moment, bold and exploratory the next.
This interplay of melodic clarity and harmonic depth gives the band its distinctive character: music
that breathes, responds, and evolves—always anchored in authenticity, always open to the
unexpected.
