Just weeks after the Elbphilharmonie opened, The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen gave its very first concert in the Grand Hall in March 2017. Since then, the orchestra, celebrated worldwide for its vibrant sound, has become one of the venue’s most popular regular guests. Much of that success is due to its charismatic chief conductor Paavo Järvi, who for more than two decades has inspired the ensemble to outstanding achievements through his exceptional interpretations.
One of the undisputed highlights of this collaboration is the recording of all nine symphonies by Ludwig van Beethoven. The response was overwhelming. Their »Bremen Beethoven« cycle received numerous accolades, including the Echo Klassik Award in 2010, and made The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen the first orchestra ever to receive the honorary prize of the German Record Critics’ Award. International critics went even further, hailing the recordings as the »greatest Beethoven of all time«. With Beethoven’s exuberant Fourth Symphony, the orchestra now offers a glimpse of its acclaimed approach to the composer’s music.
Alongside Beethoven, the orchestra has devoted itself to composers such as Joseph Haydn, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. In 2025, it collaborated for the first time on a Tchaikovsky project with the South Korean violinist Bomsori, who is an exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist. The concert in Bremen was praised by the local press as a »spectacle for the soul«. Now The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Bomsori continue that success story with Igor Stravinsky’s witty Violin Concerto »in Ré« (i.e. in D major).
