A woman was strangled in Lübeck. The police are announcing the description of a suspect on all channels, but there is no shortage of people “of medium height with a dark coat, light scarf and bobble hat” on the cold winter day.
Marie Rohde has other problems anyway: Today she and her husband Gustav are opening the “Strandgut” guesthouse. As the snowfall becomes more dense, worries increase: Will the pipes freeze? Do they have enough food? And will the guests even arrive on the snowy streets? At least the last question is quickly clarified. Given the diverse characters that meet here, some people would probably like to escape as quickly as possible - but for the time being, the snow smothers any hope of leaving.
As if it wasn't bad enough, the police's telephone announcement that they would send a detective on skis to them increases the unrest. A note was found near the murdered with the address of the murder victim and the address of the “Strandgut” guesthouse.
Is the perpetrator hiding among those present and is he (or she?) planning further murders here? The fact that shortly after Chief Detective Trotter's arrival the phone goes off and most of those present avoid his pressing questions with at best uninterestedness, if not aggression, drives him to despair. And indeed the next corpse won't be long in coming... But who will fall into the mousetrap next: the perpetrator or his next victim?
