Imagine a classroom whose walls are becoming porous. Suddenly, there are holes through which the unexpected enters, whilst other things can escape. The room begins to pulsate and expand. The familiar order of things and activities is thrown into disarray.
In Out of the Blue, for the duration of the performance, the classroom becomes a choreographic toolbox. To achieve this, we start with exactly what you know and what is there: your classroom – with all its objects, the people and the activities within it. Sitting down, standing up, putting your hand up and many other daily routines and movements in the classroom form the framework. What choreographies emerge from these activities? What fantastical landscapes can emerge from the classroom? What movements do these new landscapes invite us to make?
In this way, the classroom becomes a gallery of sculptures. Turning the pages of a schoolbook gives rise to a dance.
