The duo Jan Plewka and Marco Schmedtje have been a guarantee for intense musical moments for many years. They went on tour again and again with Zinoba, “Jan Plewka sings Rio Reiser” or a homage to Simon & Garfunkel.

Over the years, as part of the “Between the Bars” program, other cover versions were added to the program, mostly songs that spoke of the two of them's youth and musical socialization. And so the idea for another cover album came about: “Between the 80's”, a collection of consistently highly successful songs - one might say: classics - from this decade, completely reinterpreted and interpreted in their own unique way.

From “Smalltown Boy” to “Billy Jean,” from “Wild Boys” to “The Power of Love,” from “Hello” to “Material Girl,” from “Africa” to “Ain't Nobody” – all you need is these Name the title and you immediately have the melody in your head. But then you hear these new versions - and literally discover a new song in them, in between and behind them.

There will definitely be a lot of laughter at the live evenings that follow this album, because they unpack so many stories from their own youth that offer wonderful images to accompany the music. And you can already feel that these two benefited musicians have found a new, wonderful playing field after their cycles with Ton Steine Scherben/Rio Reiser and Simon & Garfunkel, whose musical framework and the way in which they make these songs their own have hardly any limits seems to know. They have already proven this during their 2023 guest performance in Schröder's Garden, which was sold out well in advance.
