Since 2013, the CHINA INN Festival has been one of the most influential German-Chinese youth music festivals in Hamburg. Following a successful run of festivals up to 2019 and a temporary hiatus, the festival was revived in 2024 and will mark its 10th edition in 2026 – coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the town twinning between Hamburg and Shanghai.
Around 100 children and young people from Shanghai travel to Hamburg to rehearse and perform alongside Hamburg’s youth orchestras and choirs. The focus is on musical exchange, cultural encounters and collaborative artistic work. The closing concert in the Laeiszhalle’s Grand Hall forms the highlight of the festival: the participating ensembles will present the results of their intensive collaboration – a diverse and inspiring programme that brings the energy and creativity of this special encounter to the stage. A concert full of young voices, international sounds and the living friendship between Hamburg and Shanghai.
