Romanticism is not merely a bygone era; it is a fundamental longing within every human being. It is the search for emotion—that is, for meaning within the objective world. From this perspective, the composer Fritz Dobler, who died in 2024, was a true Romantic. He wrote for the accordion; his works are expressive and emotional, yet their structure is always highly complex and often even 12-tone.
The programme takes its starting point from his »Walzerträume« (Waltz Dreams), composed between 2018 and 2021. Fritz Dobler’s works are complemented by pieces by Astor Piazzolla, Robert Schumann, Manuel de Falla and Benjamin Britten. The Accordion Project Orchestra Hamburg was founded to bring this special music to the public in a year in which the accordion was proclaimed »Instrument of the Year«.
