Steife Brise

Since 1992, the improvisation theatre Steife Brise has swept across the stages of Hamburg and the world with charm, speed and a good portion of Nordic cheekiness, transforming the audience's specifications into unprecedented scenes.

Founded in 1992 in the Kellertheater Hamburg, Steife Brise is one of the pioneers of improvisation theatre in Germany. Each of their performances is a unique premiere. The ensemble consists of a diverse group of 20 actors, consultants, trainers, presenters, artists and musicians who come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Together they form the strongest improv theatre in Hamburg. In addition to their stage presence, Steife Brise has also established itself as a successful business theatre and respected training institute whose influence reaches beyond the borders of Europe.

Improtheatre combines comedy, music and theatre. Within moments, exciting, touching or bizarre stories emerge before the eyes of the audience. The suggestions from the auditorium serve as a source of inspiration. Each performance is a unique stage play that brings previously unknown stories, settings and characters to life. With variety, pace, surprise and humour in tow, the Steife Brise ensemble brings its improvised performances to different stages around the city. Although they cannot call a permanent theatre building their own, they skilfully adapt to new formats and locations.

The classic formats include the "Improkrimi - Morden im Norden" (since 2009) at the Imperial Theatre, "Seemannsgarn - Bis sich die Balken biegen" (since 2013) on the Cap San Diego and the "Improshow - Die spontane Breitseite" (since the beginning in 1992) on various stages in Hamburg, Germany and worldwide.

The year 2023 marks the impressive start of three new formats: In "Bereit für Ekstase - Die Show zwischen Rausch und Realität" the Logensaal of the Hamburger Kammerspiele shakes."Impro vs. Poetry-Slam - Showdown der Künste" unites two seemingly different, yet closely related art forms at the Centralkomitee. In "Geschichten wie das Meer - Die improvisierte Wellenschaukel", scenes and songs appear on the Batavia theatre ship in Wedel like magical bottle posts. And in "Momentical - Im Moment ein Musical", the perfection of the musical and the sparkling creativity of improvisation merge to create an unprecedented musical with catchy melodies that stick in the ear.
