Elbrunde via Elmshorn and Pinneberg

Cycling for a good climate

For those who like to go fast on narrow tires, this is the right tour.

It leads along the Elbe and through the Marsch to Elmshorn and via Pinneberg back to Hamburg. In the flat north, you also get to enjoy a crisp mountain classification.

It starts at the Binnenalster. From here it goes on the Veloroute 1 over Altona to Blankenese. A steep, winding descent brings you to the banks of the Elbe. Now you warm up on the Waseberg, which has an average gradient of ten percent. At the steepest point you get out of the saddle at 16 percent.

At the top, we take a deep breath and race on a steep descent back down to the Elbe. After that, two small humps await, then it becomes pancake flat. In the protection of the dike it goes always along the Elbe. Here you can let it run properly in intervals - only now and then a sheep gate or a sheep brake out.

Through the wide marsh it goes to Elmshorn and from here via Pinneberg back to Hamburg. Veloroute 2 in the city takes you quickly back to the Binnenalster.

In addition to the harbour, the Alster forms the maritime face of the city of Hamburg. The Alster, divided in to Binnenalster and Außenalster by the Lombardsbrücke, is a meeting point and attraction for tourists and Hamburgers alike.
