Star accordion player Martynas Levickis has prepared a very special birthday present for Philip Glass, the grand master of minimal music, who will turn 90 this year. Levickis is performing a brand-new arrangement for accordion and string orchestra of Glass’ very own »Tirol Concerto«. The string players from the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester are the perfect choice to accompany him. In 2000, they performed at the premiere of this fascinating work, which weaves typical Alpine folk music into the hypnotic web of sound that we know so well from other compositions by Glass. Originally from Lithuania, Levickis pays his respect to the music of Latin America with Astor Piazzolla’s fiery yet melancholic »Aconcagua«, composed in 1979. A wonderful way to spend a mild May evening.
