Five female artists from Hamburg at the Galeriepassage in the Elbschloss Residenz

Exhibition from 22 November 2026 to 29 March 2027

Opening: Sunday, 22 November 2026, 4.00 pm

The Elbschloss Residenz and the Forum für Künstlernachlässe e.V. (FKN) are presenting the exhibition ‘Fine Lines – Vibrant Colours’ from 22 November 2026 to 29 March 2027 in the Galeriepassage at the Elbschloss Residenz Nienstedten.

On display are paintings, drawings and photographs by five female artists from Hamburg spanning two generations: MAKSA (1957–2012), Gunda Oehm (1941–2022), Gloria Umlauft-Thielicke (born 1943), Marianne Weingärtner (1917–1995) and Karin Witte (1939–2025).

Their works reveal a diverse range of motifs, spanning from figurative and representational to abstract and non-representational, executed with fine lines and vibrant colours in a style that is either old-master-like in its precision or experimental and dynamic.

This broad spectrum of artistic expression impressively reflects the era of great change in Hamburg’s art scene since the 1960s, a period in which the freedom of art was celebrated through a wealth of movements and styles. The result is a vibrant visual universe that invites viewers to decipher or immerse themselves in it, and inspires them to dream.

The Forum für Künstlernachlässe e.V. was founded in Hamburg in 2003 and is dedicated to the preservation, research and dissemination of artists’ estates and pre-estates. Its work highlights the extraordinary significance of artistic heritage, which encompasses painting, printmaking, sculpture, object art, applied art, photography, film and other art forms. With its new archive building, the FKN is creating a sustainable venue for the scholarly research into Hamburg’s art and cultural history, as well as for communicating this heritage through publications and exhibitions.

“Remembering and preserving are cornerstones of human history – and they are at the heart of the Forum für Künstlernachlässe e.V.”, stated FKN patron and Senator for Culture Dr Carsten Brosda.

As a founding member and chair of the Federal Association of Artists’ Estates (BKN), as well as a member of the German Museum Association (DMB) and the Museum Association of Schleswig-Holstein & Hamburg, the Forum has been committed to safeguarding and raising the profile of artists’ estates for many years.
