Teasertext

In the format “Drawer Discoveries”, the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G) presents thematic selections of remarkable works from its Graphic and Poster Collection. From 9 October 2026 to 25 April 2027, the focus is on dance.

The exhibition features 125 works spanning more than 100 years, demonstrating the many different ways in which movement can be represented. Graphic Designers capture movement in a wide variety of ways: through striking poses, motion blur, sequences of images or abstract forms. At times, even the typography seems to dance. Photography and drawing, black and white and colour create very different moods and forms of expression.

At the heart of the exhibition are posters for dance events featuring internationally renowned choreographers, including Alvin Ailey, Pina Bausch, Jérôme Bel, Trisha Brown, Merce Cunningham, Mary Wigman and Sasha Waltz. The display is complemented by a selection of film posters and advertising images. Video sequences from well-known film classics provide additional inspiration. A quiz and a search game invite visitors to get involved – and, of course, dancing is encouraged!
