From 23 October 2026 to 13 June 2027, the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G) will present “Hella Jongerius: Whispering Things” – an exhibition organised by the Vitra Design Museum. The show offers a comprehensive overview of the oeuvre of Hella Jongerius (b. 1963), one of the leading figures in contemporary design. For more than three decades, the Dutch designer has been cultivating a novel understanding of design, breaking new ground with her exploration of colour, materials and fabrication processes. She combines in her work experimental research into materials with an emphasis on responsibility, sustainability and the cultural significance of design.
Featuring more than 400 objects, including furniture, textiles, ceramics, prototypes, sketches, collages and films, the exhibition offers insights into Jongerius’s creative process and diverse body of work – from early experimental pieces to iconic products and sculptural ceramics, including a number of projects for companies such as Camper, IKEA and Vitra as well as for institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Today, Hella Jongerius is still inspiring younger generations of designers with her work.
The exhibition will be on view from 14 March to 6 September 2026 at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, and from 23 October 2026 to 13 June 2027 at the MK&G.
The exhibition is supported by the global sponsor Maharam, the sponsor Camper, the IKEA Foundation and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
