Summer exhibition
This year's summer exhibition features works by the "North German Realists" at the gallery in the Marstall Ahrensburg. For over three decades, this group of artists has dedicated itself to plein air painting, a special form of outdoor painting. The North German Realists capture the beauty and dynamism of nature directly on site, despite the challenges posed by changing light and weather conditions.
The exhibition features works by ten artists: Margreet Boonstra, Brigitta Borchert, Tobias Duwe, André Krigar, Meike Lipp, Mathias Meinel, Lars Möller, Frank Suplie, Till Warwas, and Corinna Weiner. All members of the group are recognized artists with academic training who work full-time in their fields. Each year, the North German Realists accept the invitation to a symposium where they work together in nature and cultivate their close connection to the environment and to one another.
The group is particularly popular in northern Germany. From the very beginning, the exhibitions that followed the plein air performances were a huge success with the public. In 2013, the North German Realists were awarded the Schleswig-Holstein Business Art Prize at a retrospective at Gottdorf Castle in Schleswig. In 2019, the group won the Nordart Audience Award.
