This event will be held exclusively in English!
Midlife Crisis is Iranian comedian Shahin Asmari’s debut English-language stand-up comedy special—a hilarious, honest and surprisingly relatable story about taking the road less travelled, even when everyone tells you not to, and building a life that actually feels like your own.
Born in Iran, Shahin has spent most of his adult life making decisions that made perfect sense to him—and absolutely no sense to anyone else. From studying English literature against all expectations, to leaving a secure career in banking, moving abroad, and eventually giving up corporate life to pursue stand-up comedy in Europe, he’s been swimming against the tide for over a decade.
Now aged 35, the Iranian comedian has named his first special *Midlife Crisis*. Why? Because, as he puts it, Iranians don’t have the same life expectancy as Europeans—and besides, he’d already had his quarter-life crisis when he left Iran.
This is the world premiere of an English-language comedy special in Hamburg on 16 October, before it embarks on a European tour in 2027, making you among the very first to see it live at the brand-new Kultur Palast Harburg.
Whether you’ve moved to Germany, struggled with visas, bureaucracy, culture shock, loneliness, or simply wondered whether you’ve made the right life choices, you’ll recognise yourself somewhere in Shahin’s story. And if you haven’t? You’ll get a sharp, funny and honest glimpse into what it means to build a new life from scratch in a foreign country.
Expect sharp observations, outrageous stories, dark humour and heartfelt moments that will particularly resonate with English-speaking audiences in Hamburg and Germany – people navigating between cultures, careers and identities, all whilst trying to figure out life one questionable decision at a time.
If you’re looking for English stand-up comedy in Hamburg, a night out in Harburg, or one of the most unique English comedy events in Hamburg, Midlife Crisis is a show you won’t want to miss.
Come and have a laugh, and celebrate the beautiful chaos of starting afresh.
