50 Years of the Weißer Ring – this special anniversary will also be reflected in the program of the gala concert. The first movement of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s Symphony No. 2, »Lobgesang,« opens the concert in a striking manner with a prayer of thanks and a solemn hymn of praise for 50 years of victim support by the Weißer Ring.
The Hamburg Chamber Symphony will perform the recurring melody »All that breathes, praise the Lord.« Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto, featuring Valentin Annerbo as soloist, also exudes a special solemnity and fits perfectly into the festive setting. The main work of the anniversary concert is Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, »From the New World.« It impresses with its solemnity, its rousing energy, and its melodies that are at times contemplative and touching.
Since 1976, Weisser Ring e.V., Germany’s largest victim support association, has been advocating for people who have been affected by crime through no fault of their own. Around 3,000 volunteer counselors support those seeking help—in person at more than 400 branch offices, via the victim hotline, or through online counseling. Weißer Ring e.V. receives no government funding. Its work is made possible exclusively through donations, which allows it to remain independent. Every donation helps us help others. All proceeds from this anniversary concert will go entirely to Weißer Ring e.V.
