The Haydn Orchestra Hamburg is one of the best non-professional orchestras in northern Germany. Founded in 1977, it has been conducted by Rida Murtada since 2003. It performs twice a year at the Laeiszhalle. From chamber orchestra to symphony orchestra – in its early years, the name said it all: Haydn, Mozart, Telemann, Handel, Corelli. With a current membership of 90 musicians, the orchestra has grown to such an extent that its programme now includes the great symphonies and concertos of the 19th and early 20th centuries, such as works by Brahms, Beethoven, Bruckner, Schumann and Berlioz.
