What is the cello doing among the wind instruments? At the 6th chamber concert, eight wind players and one cellist will perform a program that sensitively combines different styles, instrumentations, and forms of expression. The concert opens with Andrey Rubtsov’s »Three Moods for Wind Quintet«, which explores the expressive range of wind instruments with contrasting characters and contemporary musical language. Heitor Villa-Lobos’ duo »Assobio a játo« alludes to a special flute playing technique (»jet whistle«) in its title. The intimate dialogue between flute and violoncello thrives on great rhythmic freedom and poetic lightness.

Endre Szervánszky’s wind quintet captivates with its clear structures, striking rhythms, and concise musical language. The program concludes with Carl Reinecke’s Wind Octet in B-flat major—a late Romantic work of rich sonority and elegant form that brings together the wind instruments in a variety of combinations. The result is a program that spans the spectrum from contemporary character studies to chamber music dialogue to large-scale Romantic ensemble art.
