Would you like to experience firsthand how work was done on a coal-fired steamer from the 1930s? To see a huge steam engine in action in the engine room? To watch the stokers as they generate steam with two enormous boilers and manually burn up to 1500 kg of coal per hour in the 6 fires?
Escape the hustle and bustle of the Port Anniversary and admire Hamburg's skyline from the water. Enjoy a freshly tapped beer or a glass of wine from the onboard bar. Of course, food and drinks are also available. The STETTIN will dock at 8 p.m., and the party continues at the berth until the end of the fireworks. Food and drinks will still be available then!
The Port Anniversary Fireworks display takes place at 10:30 p.m. opposite the Landungsbrücken piers. You can remain on board after the cruise to experience the spectacle from a distance. A fascinating aspect is that all the ships will slowly move towards the fireworks beforehand, and you can witness this spectacle from your ship.
THE SHIP
The STETTIN was commissioned in 1933, as the largest icebreaker under the German flag to date.
It kept the Oder River and the Szczecin Lagoon ice-free. In March 1945, it was able to escape from Szczecin to Copenhagen across the Baltic Sea with more than 500 war refugees – at times under the effects of the war. Subsequently, it found its home port in Hamburg and was responsible for keeping the ice on the Elbe River, the Kiel Canal, and the Kiel Fjord clear.
Since 1982, the steam icebreaker STETTIN has been a museum ship and a technical cultural monument, is maintained by volunteers and relies on donations, sponsors and income from trips for the preservation of the ship.
