Genesis, Pink Floyd and Tatort
Pop, Rock and Film Music on the Church Organ
Traditionally, the church organ is associated with the great works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Michael Schütz expands this spectrum in an impressive way: On Saturday, 29 May 2027 at 7 p.m., he presents pop, rock and film music in the Hauptkirche St. Petri – and gives it a surprisingly new, intense expressive power on the organ.
Already in 2023 and 2025, Michael Schütz attracted numerous visitors to the Petrikirche. His aim is to connect the seemingly opposite worlds of church and pop music. “For me, it is more than just a concert,” says Schütz. “I want to give visitors a personal access to the music – and, through the special interplay of church space and organ sound, also open up a spiritual dimension to the church.”
With the programme “Genesis, Pink Floyd and Tatort”, Michael Schütz addresses a very broad audience: Christians and people distant from the church, organ enthusiasts and culture lovers, young and old. Unforgettable classics such as I Am Sailing, the Queen hit Somebody To Love, Invisible Touch by Genesis, or the iconic film melodies from Star Trek and Schimanski’s Tatort can be heard – all newly interpreted on the church organ. Powerful compositions by Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Karat, Udo Jürgens and others merge with the auratic atmosphere of the church into a unique sound experience. The music awakens personal memories and touches listeners on a deep emotional level. This creates a lively bridge between past and present – and the organ becomes the connecting element between secular and spiritual experience.
