A family conflict is brewing. On the surface, the ultra-modern, industrialised model farm still appears to be a success. It has always been among the best, yet – despite all the machinery – it is nevertheless running into difficulties. When Broder Bahnsen returns home after years away, whilst his twin brother Henning – who is a few minutes older and therefore favoured in the will – is slowly losing control, disaster looms. Doubts about this type of animal husbandry are growing, the belief in growth is in crisis, and both humans and animals are reaching their limits and heading for catastrophe.

Dörte Hansen was an editor at NDR in Hamburg for many years until she made a radical break, gave up her job and began to write. Today she is one of Germany’s most successful authors. Every book has been a bestseller and, at the same time, highly praised by the most important critics – from the Süddeutsche Zeitung to Die Zeit. A rare and welcome phenomenon.
