In his native Brazil, singer and guitarist Djavan still fills the largest stadiums – even at the age of 77. This year, he celebrates his 50th stage anniversary and will make a stop at the Elbphilharmonie in September. Together with his audience, Djavan performs his greatest hits and brings a piece of Brazilian music history to Hamburg.
Yet the living legend of music almost became a professional footballer: a friend’s record collection introduced the young Djavan to the magical world of music – from Bach and Beethoven to Miles Davis and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as traditional Brazilian music by Noel Rosa and Tom Jobim. This is where Djavan’s extraordinary career as one of his country’s most renowned musicians began.
In 1976, he released his debut album »A Voz, o Violão, a Música de Djavan«, followed by 24 more to date. With his music, Djavan reaches millions of people around the world. His life has also been brought to the stage in the musical »Djavan – Vidas para Contar« (Djavan – Lives to Tell), allowing fans to experience his story in a new way.
