Mobile phones, tablets and laptops: we’ve long since become unable to do without any of them. And the apps collect data and do everything they can to keep us hooked. We’ll show you in practical terms how you can break free.
CCC Hansestadt Hamburg e.V. and the Wau Holland Foundation are organising the first Digital Independence Days in Hamburg from 2 to 4 October, in collaboration with Hamburg neighbourhood initiatives, maker and hacker spaces, and other civil society organisations from the region.
You can look forward to a programme centred on digital independence: messaging apps, office software, or your own cloud.
Digital Independence
In December 2025, the Digital Independence Day initiative was launched to show everyone ways to break free from Big Tech: better messaging apps, better office software, independent cloud services.
In over 100 towns and cities in Germany and beyond, events featuring talks, workshops and discussion sessions are held regularly on the first Sunday of every month. And on DIDAY.org, you’ll find plenty of information on how to make the switch to more open alternatives yourself.
The aim is to equip you with greater competence and autonomy in dealing with modern technology.
DIDAYS – A weekend of digital self-determination
Over the weekend of 2–4 October, these and even more topics will be covered in a compact format: talks, workshops and discussions amongst interested participants. As well as the practical ‘how’, we also want to discuss social and political issues, such as the impact of artificial intelligence, or the digitalisation of Hamburg’s city and local government. We’ve been able to secure the Kultur Palast Harburg as our venue. From Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, visitors will have the chance to learn, through talks and workshops, how they can become more independent. Admission is, of course, free. The programme is tailored to people who might drop in more or less spontaneously for a few hours just to ‘have a look’.
