The Assistant is the solo project of Berlin-based musician and producer Tom Hessler, also known as the singer and guitarist of the Hamburg band Fotos.
Mystery, crime, and romance: these are the ingredients for Ultramarin, the new concept album from Der Assistent , aka Tom Hessler. After the feverishly dreamy Tropicalismo trip Amnesie am Amazonas, he explores the most relaxed genres of the early 90s on his third album. True to the credo: "There is nothing more 80s than the early 90s."
In eight songs ranging from Yacht Pop and Balearic to Downbeat, listeners sail with the assistant and a band of doppelgangers across stormy seas of the soul towards Total Confusion.
Together with musician and Staatsakt founder Maurice Summen, Hessler also runs the project Radio Superspace. Since 2025, the two have been producing a monthly show under the same name on ByteFM.
