To this day, centuries-old Christmas melodies from the Renaissance and Baroque periods are inextricably linked with the festive season. They evoke memories of Christmases past, offer moments of reflection in hectic times and touch the heart with a special Christmas feeling. In the concert »Hodie Christus natus est«, the Calmus Ensemble lets this music shine in new splendour and presents the entire spectrum of early music: from simple Gregorian chant and polyphonic works from the Renaissance – for example by Guillaume Dufay or Tomás Luis de Victoria to ornate four-part movements by Michael Praetorius and magnificent Baroque music, as heard in Johann Hermann Schein’s »Israelsbrünnlein«.
