What is my blood donation needed for?
Nothing works without human blood!
Even the most perfect medical care system will not work on serious injuries and life-threatening non-blood diseases.
As amazing as it sounds:
The high demand for blood is primarily a consequence of medical progress. Many operations, transplants and the treatment of patients with malignant tumors have become possible only thanks to modern transfusion medicine.
Statistically, most of the blood is now needed to treat cancer patients. This is followed by diseases of the heart, stomach and intestinal diseases, sports and traffic accidents. In the event of a serious accident, it may happen that there are at least ten blood products per victim due to certain internal injuries.
GOOD TO KNOW:
A large proportion of Germans depend on the blood of others at least once in their lives.
