This concert by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra promises to take us on a musical journey to the Far North in a performance of various works by Edvard Grieg. The orchestra has invited celebrated young pianist Alexander Malofeev and Hardanger fiddler Ragnhild Hemsing to come and inspire us with the music of their home country. We can expect to be immersed in the vibrant and varied culture of Norway as Malofeev performs Grieg’s phenomenal piano concerto. While we listen to the musical story of Peer Gynt, a fantastic mythology of trolls, fairies and gods will unfold before our eyes almost as vividly as in the original poem by fellow Norwegian, Henrik Ibsen. At the hands of Hemsing and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the sounds of Grieg’s music seem to come to life. You may even hear magical creatures of all sizes flitting across the stage.
