FC Gundlach became famous for his fashion photographs and, through his diverse alliances, a key figure in the history of photography. To mark his 100th birthday, the Bucerius Kunst Forum is showing his iconic photographs, as well as previously unpublished images and never-before-seen color prints.
The exhibition highlights Gundlach's international influence as a photographer, collector, and patron of photography, spanning from Paris to New York, Brasília to Hamburg. Alongside his own photographs, numerous works by role models, contemporaries, and successors such as Edward Steichen, Richard Avedon, and Nan Goldin are on display. Through dialogue with his own work, the exhibition reveals his love for the medium, reciprocal influences, social discourses, and power dynamics.
An exhibition as part of the 9th Triennial of Photography Hamburg 2026.
