Bucerius Kunst Forum

Art in new contexts

The Bucerius Kunst Forum, located on the street "Alter Wall", invites its guests to enjoy an exclusive encounter with the classics of art. Four alternating exhibitions per year show, in a concentrated format, international art of the highest quality, from antiquity to classic modern art.

The exhibition house in the heart of Hamburg dates back to the time of the Ebelin Foundation by Gerd Bucerius, which began promoting science, art and education in the 1970s.

New premises at Alter Wall

Founded in 2002, the Bucerius Kunst Forum has been located in new premises on the Alter Wall, directly opposite the Rathausinnenhof, since June 2019. Behind the historic façade, four floors have been created here for the arts: The spacious exhibition hall on the first floor provides the setting for concentrated thematic exhibitions. For events such as concerts, readings, discussions, lectures or poetry slams, there is a separate floor with an auditorium and atrium. A glass studio at fleet height offers space for creative work.

The world of the arts

The aim of the Kunst Forum is to present high quality art in new contexts and thus offer art connoisseurs and newcomers alike an exciting and insightful visit to the exhibition. The focus is on a specific theme, an era or an artist. The spectrum ranges from ancient Pompeii to the paintings of David Hockney. A total of four exhibitions are shown each year, so that the presentation changes every three to four months.

The ideal place for a family outing

Due to the manageable size of the Bucerius Kunst Forum, the exhibitions are limited to around 100 works, which are selected with great care and brought together from international collections and museums. Children and young people up to the age of 18 can visit the exhibitions free of charge. This is not the only reason for a visit with the family: special family tours, which take place on Saturdays, give children and their parents new perspectives on art, which can then be put into practice in the studio. For a relaxed visit to the exhibition with the very youngest, the Bucerius Kunst Forum offers "With Art and Cone": exclusive tours for young parents and their offspring.
