‘The Silent Cry’
A bilingual play (German/Turkish)
‘The Silent Scream’ was inspired by the painting of the same name by the artist Aslı Filiz. The play was written and directed by Ferman Fermo Karayiğit.
It tells of the suffering of the Yazidi people – a pain that has been part of Mesopotamian history for centuries. At its heart is the story of a woman who is abducted and held captive by Islamist extremists. Her voice becomes the voice of many women whose experiences of violence, loss and hopelessness have gone unheard for far too long. The play is also intended as an artistic call for humanity, remembrance and peace.
