Panoptikum

Who is really real here?

The waxworks museum on Spielbudenplatz has been open for over 130 years and it is well worth a visit! Here you can meet everyone from Albert Einstein to Thomas Gottschalk to Udo Lindenberg and numerous other waxwork personalities.

Experience the fascination between wax and reality! The Panoptikum in Hamburg is Germany's oldest wax museum and has been captivating visitors for generations thanks to its remarkable wax figures. The family business continues to uphold the tradition of the museum with dedication and care. Because the following still applies: resemblance is no coincidence. But art!

A special kind of wax museum

For more than 100 years, since 1879 to be precise, a wax museum of a special kind has been fascinating visitors young and old: the Panoptikum in Hamburg on Spielbudenplatz, Germany's oldest and largest wax museum. Covering an area of more than 700 square metres, it presents a world of wax that captivates visitors of all ages. Two new megastars have also been added: Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, enriching the Panoptikum with further internationally acclaimed personalities.

Over 120 people from history, art and politics, celebrities and megastars

Meet over 120 people from history, art and politics, celebrities and megastars on four floors. All lifelike and close up as wax figures. Whether Michael Schumacher, Otto Waalkes, Robbie Williams, Udo Lindenberg or Angela Merkel - they are all waiting for you for a souvenir photo. In addition to Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, visitors can also get up close and personal with other stars such as Helene Fischer, Donald Trump, Angelina Jolie and Hamburg icon Olivia Jones. You can also discover the giantess Mariedl with her height of 2.27 metres, a man with three eyes and other strange characters. Not all the wax figures are based on real-life models. The creepy corner with eerie creatures and a medical-anatomical cabinet complete the exhibition and give children and even some adults goosebumps. The detailed Ed Sheeran wax figure, created by sculptor Lisa Büscher, is a particular highlight. The artist's many tattoos presented a particular challenge.

A place of art

The Panoptikum once served merely as a curiosity to amuse and amaze visitors. Today it is much more than that, it is also a place of art whose exhibits each require nine to twelve months of intensive and detail-orientated work. The result is literally something to be proud of. You will need 30 to 60 minutes to visit the Panoptikum. On request, an audio guide in German and English will provide you with interesting background information. The Panoptikum can be booked for children's birthday parties and other private events, companies and film teams.
