Advent at St. Markus

Cosy Christmas market at St Mark's Church

Organic mulled wine, cranberry punch and regional delicacies - the small but cosy Christmas market in front of St. Mark's Church is once again offering many regional and sustainable products this year.

With its colourful stalls, many Christmas trees and a historic carousel, the Christmas market is a cosy alternative to the large, sprawling markets in the city. As in previous years, there will also be a fine programme for young and old in 2024. Wednesday afternoon is reserved for our young guests and will be visited by artists, puppeteers and other surprise guests. Thursday heralds the start of the weekend with after-work sounds.

Nostalgic flair and regionality

Above all, nostalgia and sustainability characterise the family-friendly, cosy Advent market. Visitors and guests will find regional products, fairly produced goods and lots of activities with and for children. The nostalgic children's carousel will make the little ones' eyes light up, while Christmas classics such as crêpes and lard biscuits, as well as organic mulled wine, cranberry punch, cocoa and many other regional delicacies will tantalise the taste buds of young and old alike. The organic red mulled wine contains less sugar and is also supplied in 1000 litre containers, which significantly reduces packaging waste. And the homemade apple punch is produced with juice from ‘Das Geld hängt an den Bäumen’ (The money hangs on the trees) and thus supports social projects in the city.

Charity campaign for homeless people

A major concern of St Mark's Advent season is to support charitable causes and do good: true to the spirit of Christmas. Under the motto ‘Pack your parcel’, all visitors are invited during Advent to hand in gift packages for homeless people at the mulled wine stand and in the church, which the organiser bjp will hand over to those in need at the traditional

Hamburg Christmas dinner in the Hofbräuhaus.

Hygiene and care products as well as warm clothing and accessories & soul-warming items such as pictures and sweets are traditionally gratefully accepted.

CITY AREA PORTRAIT Eimsbüttel & Eppendorf

Here, one can find magnificent old building façades, local and exquisite restaurants as well as fancy boutiques and owner-operated shops. While Eppendorf is rather fancy, one can feel the hanseatic serenity in Eimsbüttel. Both districts offer much green and water and are hence with good reason very popular neighbourhoods in Hamburg.

Twinkling lights for the city Christmas market around the Michel

On the first weekend of Advent, Hamburg's oldest Christmas market shines and glitters at the Michel. In the crypt, in the parish hall and, for the first time, all over the church square, visitors can enjoy arts and crafts stalls, food and drink and hands-on activities such as painting nativity figures.
